*CLOSED*Autographed Book Giveaway! Really Sweet Book

The winner for this giveaway has been notified. It was Jennifer, comment 58. You guys all inspired me with the stories of the elderly people you know and learn so much from. Thanks again for sharing.

This review was written by my mother. She felt so moved by this book that she asked to write it. Thanks MOM!

What I Know: uncommon wisdom and universal truths from 10-year-olds and 100-year-olds, by Roger Emerson Fishman with Joe Rohrlich.

This is a small book, but boy what a book! Roger was so blessed in my opinion to meet with these amazing people that lived to be 100 years young. Just
a couple for example, Harry Houdini's assistant, a major league baseball player, an academy award-winner, and several others. The knowledge that these people posses does not come from any book, but from life experiences. How fortunate to sit down and talk with these people, to learn from them, to enjoy them.

Of course, as you can guess from the title of the book, 100 year olds are not all he met with. He also met with a group of 10 year olds. Even though they were young in age, they had some pretty good information to share as well. A couple of my favorite quotes from this book are:

"It's not the size of the brain that really matters. It's the size of the heart that counts." - Austin B, Lexington, KY 10 years old.

"In life, the one thing you can control is your word. When you give it, you're making a promise that you may forget, but the person who hears it never will" - Betty Matoff, Los Angeles, CA (one from a centenarian)

This book is full of wisdom. I just wish that I could program it all into my brain and remember it when I need it. I plan to write down the ones that really made an impact on me and read them again and again until I do just that. I so enjoyed the stories from the centenarians.

Roger was very blessed to have a good, but short, relationship with his grandfather. That short relationship seemed to be a major factor in his life. I never had that with a grandparent, but my father was such a wise man and I was blessed to have a very special relationship with him. I have always been partial to our elders. I believe they have so much to share with us if we will just listen to them. This is a wonderful read, one to keep on your nightstand and pick up often!

You can find the book What I Know: uncommon wisdom and universal truths from 10-year-olds and 100-year-olds at
Borders, Barnes & Noble and several other bookstores. For more information, visit http://www.whatiknowthebook.com/.

I've learned to shut my mouth, listen and take instruction. Sometimes you don't catch onto something right off the bat (even though I normally do hehe) and you've got to practice to get better at it.

The oldest person I have know was 92 I think... It was a lady that I waited on a few years ago. She came in everyday with her daughter. Her daughter who was also very old in her 70's would pick her up EVERYDAY from the nursing home and take her to Steak n Shake. They were wonderful people...
