The Dr. Hippo Series Book Review and Giveaway! CLOSED 7/26

As a mom, I know how important reading to children is. I actually read to my children within hours of them being born. That is why I was so excited when I got the opportunity to review the Dr. Hippo Series by Charlotte Cowan, M.D.

Charlotte Cowan, M.D. is a board certified pediatrician who decided to leave her practice to write children's books. After reading her Dr. Hippo Series, I am glad she did! These books are designed to help parents and children cope with the trips to the doctor we all dread! As parents, we dread them because it means our little ones are not feeling well. As kids, they dread them because they don't know what to expect, and that can be scary.

The Dr. Hippo Series introduces us to the kind of pediatrician we all hope to find. He is a caring and loving Hippopotamus named Dr. Hippo, of course. Each story finds Dr. Hippo helping animal parents and their children deal with the ailments they most often face. There are five titles in the series so far such as the newest title, "The Moose with Loose Poops". What child would not want to read a book with that title? I actually tested it out on my 6 year old nephew and 2 year old niece and son. They thought the way the ailment was described was hilarious to say the least! I even overheard my nephew telling a friend about the book days later!

These books are written in a way that helps children to feel comfortable at their Dr. visits by preparing them for what to expect. For us as parents, it helps us to remember what to look for when our kiddos aren't feeling up to par. The best part for us moms and dads, is the convenient laminated Parent Guide that comes in the back of each book. It is a quick reference guide that gives advice on whichever problem Dr. Hippo is helping to make all better! This was my favorite part as a new mom.

Charlotte Cowan M.D. also has a great blog that will answer any of your pediatric questions you may have. Be sure to add this to your list of resources. What could be better than having a Board Certified Pediatrician right at your fingertips?

My son has a minor case of Asthma. This would be a great book for my son and other children who have a minor or major case of asthma. I think choosing an animal who is usually active and fast would work great for a book like this. Maybe an antelope or a cheetah.
